Min, Byung-ho had many opportunities for gaining access to western medical science as a Christian. He felt strongly about the necessity of western drugs that any of our people could use easily. It was back in 1897 when he, a royal palace official, mixed in a western medical science in a royal secret prescription with success after research of several years. He made WHAL MYUNG SU as the first new western medicine in Korea. In that year his son Min Kang founded DONG WHA YAK BANG to popularize WHAL MYUNG SU. It is the parent company of 'Dong Wha Pharmaceutical Industrial Company Limited', and the first pharmaceutical company in Korea. Like this, Dong Wha was started with the noble spirit of the service symbolized in ¡°Dong Wha supplies fine drugs for the people", and this spirit has been maintained as the bottom idea of company until today. At the beginning, Dong Wha was managed in a small scale, producing WHAL MYUNG SU and IN SO WHAN and supplying them through churches. And then Dong Wha accelerated popularization of western drugs and produced 86 kinds of medicine as western civilization was introduced to Korea rapidly. In the year 1910, Dong Wha had developed a system as pharmaceutical company with doing such as registrating dozens of trademark including "Bu Chae Pyo" (Fan) at the Patent Bureau to protect our trademarks (brand) and to secure the right of our own trademarks. Dong Wha's medicine became known to the whole country with taking CHO SUN MUL SAN GONG JIN WHOI(exhibition) which was held in 1915 as a momentum and then entered a booming stage. However, after the death of Min, Kang, a founder of Dong Wha and a nationalist as well, the base of Dong Wha started breaking down and the spirit at establishment was being forgotten.
